Tornado Leaves Extensive Damage in Northern Illinois

Chaplains are in the Midwest this week after a tornado with 130 mph winds whipped through Illinois. Two of them prayed with a man who opened his heart to Christ following the storm.

An EF2 tornado touched down over the weekend in the village of Lena, Illinois, near the Wisconsin border.

The powerful storm toppled power lines and massive trees, leaving extensive damage to homes and businesses, and debris was scattered for miles.

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) is deploying a team of chaplains to Lena to provide emotional and spiritual support beginning today. They will serve alongside disaster relief ministry Samaritan’s Purse.

“The storms of life come when we least expect them,” said Josh Holland, international director of BG-RRT. “When the people of Lena experienced the tornado that hit their town, they were not alone. … Our crisis-trained chaplains will share a message of hope with them—that God will never leave them even through the strongest storms.”

At least 10 more tornadoes hit areas of the central U.S. this past weekend. Please pray for those affected by the recent destruction, that they will find comfort and hope in Jesus Christ.
