Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, passed away today (April 9, 2021) at the age of 99. He was married to Queen Elizabeth II for 73 years, making them the first royal couple to celebrate over 70 years of marriage. Aside from being well known to the public eye as the charismatic figure in the royal family, Prince Philip was the longest-serving consort to the monarch and the oldest ever male member of the British Royal family. Please join us in praying for the Queen and the rest of the family as they mourn his death.
The passing of another person can often make us contemplate death and the afterlife. While many people fear death, the Gospel of Jesus Christ actually gives us freedom from that fear because of this wonderful promise in the Bible: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16, ESV).
Read these quotes on death and Christ’s victory over the grave:
From Billy Graham:
“The most thrilling thing about heaven is that Jesus Christ will be there. I will see Him face to face. Jesus Christ will meet us at the end of life’s journey.”
“The moment we take our last breath on earth, we take our first in heaven.”
“My home is in heaven. I’m just passing through this world.”
“Death for the Christian is the doorway to heaven’s glory. Because of Christ’s resurrection we can joyously say with Paul, ‘Where, O death, is your victory?’” (1 Corinthians 15:55).
“Death is robbed of much of its terror for the true believer.”
From Franklin Graham:
“In moments when we are most thoughtful about the meaning of life, there is a craving for something more. At its core, this is a longing to know God intimately.”
“Jesus is the only way to God, because He is the only One in history to take sin’s penalty for you and me.”
“One day we will all stand before Jesus, either as our Saviour or our Judge.”
From Will Graham:
“Jesus conquered the grave and created the way for a broken human being to find eternity with a perfect and blameless God.”
“Ultimately, everything pales in comparison to spending eternity in the beautiful presence of the One we serve. What a day that will be!”
Do you know where you will spend eternity? You can be certain today.
