A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture in southern Japan this week, killing over 30 people, injuring dozens more, and knocking out power and water for thousands of residents.
The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) is deploying chaplains from Australia to help comfort the grieving, offering them the light of the Gospel during this dark time. They will join Japanese Christians who recently completed the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Sharing Hope in Crisis training, working alongside the local church in ministering to survivors and first responders.
“Our hearts are with everyone affected by the devastating earthquake in Japan,” said Josh Holland, vice president of BG-RRT Global. “In the wake of these disasters, many people are searching for hope and comfort. Our crisis-trained chaplains will be there to listen, pray, and remind those who are hurting that they are not forgotten, pointing them to the lasting hope found in Jesus Christ.”
