Hurricane Milton spawned dozens of tornadoes and left millions of residents in the dark as it moved across the Florida Peninsula on Thursday.

“I just want to encourage people to pray,” Franklin Graham urged during a news broadcast in light of the second major storm to slam the Southeast in the past couple of weeks.

More than 20 people have died, with hundreds of thousands still without power.

Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) chaplains are ministering in Charlotte County, Florida, just north of Fort Myers.

“Words can’t describe the devastation that we’re seeing in Florida, and it’s compounded by the reality that some of the areas that were most impacted were already working to recover from Hurricane Helene when Milton struck,” said Josh Holland, international director of BG-RRT.

The Category 3 storm brought 18 inches of rain to some parts of the state and caused storm surges in multiple areas. People remain in vulnerable, heartbreaking situations after losing homes, businesses, or vehicles due to flooding and high winds.

“This storm has left a sea of heartbreak in its wake,” Holland said. “Chaplains will be there to stand alongside those who are hurting, providing comfort and the hope of Jesus in these trying times.”

Please pray for all those coping with the effects of the recent hurricane, as well as those still grieving in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Ask God to strengthen these chaplains as they minister.
