This week, the White House has been hosting various Easter events in observance of Holy Week—acknowledging Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and His victory over the grave.
“Through His death, we are forgiven of our sins. Through His Resurrection, we have hope of eternal life,” President Donald Trump said in a statement.
Organised by the White House Faith Office, the observances included a Thursday worship service for staff with a sermon from Franklin Graham.
He also led a prayer during a White House dinner on Wednesday.
“Our Father and our God, we come tonight to say thank you,” Franklin Graham prayed. “Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to this Earth to take our sins—that He died on a cross, shedding His own blood for each and every one, buried in a tomb of sin, but on the third day you raised Him to life.
“And Father, we know that if we confess our sins and repent and believe on the name of your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved. … It is my prayer tonight that many people this Easter would turn from their sins and by faith believe.”
Trump added in his statement this week that his administration “renews its promise to defend the Christian faith.”
“We will never waver in safeguarding the right to religious liberty, upholding the dignity of life, and protecting God in our public square,” President Trump shared.
