“The scenes of collapsed buildings and the stories of lost souls that we see on TV or on the media don’t do justice to the reality here on the ground. It’s just devastating, beyond comprehension.”
Hiram Sanchez, a chaplain with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT), gets emotional thinking about all he’s seen following this summer’s double earthquakes in Venezuela that left over 6,300 dead. Thousands are carrying deep trauma, and there’s fear in their eyes as they wonder how they’re going to get through the days ahead.
That’s why Spanish-speaking BG-RRT chaplains are there: to let them share their experiences, to comfort them, and tell them about Jesus Christ who never fails us, even in the darkest moments.
“While many factors can help with the material things and the physical needs and the immediate needs, this ministry helps people in the long run—in spiritual and emotional needs,” Sanchez said. “In Jesus they have a firm foundation.”
