Hurricane Melissa, a category five storm with 185 mph winds and six feet of rain, tore through Jamaica on October 28. At least 19 people were killed in Jamaica, and the toll is expected to rise as search and rescue teams continue to work.
Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) chaplains are on the ground in the midst of the wreckage, providing emotional and spiritual support to families that are trying to sort through the pieces of their lives.
“Hurricane Melissa brought complete devastation to parts of Jamaica—with destruction and infrastructure collapse that has isolated people and communities on the island,” said Josh Holland, vice president of the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Global. “As thousands of residents and visitors navigate the difficult days ahead, the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team will be there to share light in the midst of darkness.”
Chaplains arrived only three days after the storm and are providing a ministry of presence to a shocked and hurting community.
Please pray for the people of Jamaica and the surrounding countries as they begin the long road to recovery. Also lift up chaplains and aid workers as they minister.
